Hazelden Betty Ford in Beaverton, OR

Outpatient Drug Treatment

background

Day Treatment & Day and Evening IOP

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs

The goal of outpatient addiction treatment at Hazelden Betty Ford is to help you reclaim your life from substance use challenges, other mental health conditions—or both.

Your care team will incorporate psychological, social and substance use (alcohol and other drugs) assessments to create a comprehensive and personalized treatment plan for you. If you are experiencing symptoms of a co-occurring mental health condition such as post-traumatic stress disorder, depression or anxiety, our experts will synchronize mental health services into your treatment plan. Our Beaverton outpatient center also offers a trauma-specific day treatment program, synchronizing therapies to address trauma and substance use conditions together.

For continuity of care, you will be paired with a primary counselor throughout your treatment experience rather than change counselors at different stages. This therapeutic alliance also allows your counselor to continually assess your situation and adjust your treatment plan as needed.

How can I tell if I need treatment?

Addiction is considered a spectrum disorder, which means your symptoms could be mild, moderate or severe—or a combination of these. Sometimes the warning signs of substance abuse are obvious, like an accident or a medical emergency. Sometimes the symptoms are a little more ambiguous, like relationship difficulties, performance issues at work or health complications. And often the symptoms of substance use disorder overlap with symptoms of depression, anxiety or other mental health challenges. The bottom line is that substance use issues affect your ability to cope and function well. Treatment can help you find a healthier, happier way forward.

Do you have more questions? Please reach out to us. Confidentially and at no cost, our care navigators will answer your questions, learn more about your situation, and discuss the types of behavioral health care services we offer in Oregon.

Why do you have a specialized day treatment program for trauma and addiction?

Trauma and addiction are closely linked, and the most-effective treatment addresses all the complexities, all together. Our Beaverton outpatient clinic specializes in evidence-based treatment for co-occurring substance use and trauma conditions.

Day treatment provides you with the most-intensive outpatient level of care. The program combines:

  • Education on symptoms and effects of trauma exposure
  • Skill-building to strengthen emotion regulation, resilience and relapse prevention
  • Helpful insights about sleep, nutrition, relationships, medication management and safety strategies

Many of our clinicians hold dual credentials as certified alcohol and drug counselors and as licensed mental health professionals.

What's involved in the DUII diversion program?

Oregon's court-mandated Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) diversion program is offered at our outpatient facility in Beaverton. Referral by an Alcohol and Drug Evaluation and Screening Specialist is required to participate in this drug treatment programming option, which incorporates IOP or other outpatient alcohol treatment based on your situation.

Why do you have a specialized opioid treatment program?

Opioid withdrawal can present unique challenges and difficulties that could potentially undermine your engagement in rehab. When clinically appropriate, Hazelden Betty Ford offers an evidence-based, medication-assisted treatment protocol to ease the discomfort of opioid withdrawal and reduce cravings. The goal is to help you focus your mind and energy more fully on rehabilitation activities and goals.

Does Hazelden Betty Ford provide detox services at Beaverton?

We do not provide drug or alcohol detox services at our outpatient clinic, but our inpatient treatment centers in Newberg (near Portland), California (near Palm Springs) and Minnesota (near St. Paul-Minneapolis) have fully staffed medical units for detoxification services.

Detox is often required before starting an addiction rehab program because the process eases the discomfort of withdrawal symptoms and reduces drug cravings so you can focus more fully on treatment.

Withdrawal from alcohol/drugs can cause unpredictable and potentially severe reactions. Be sure to seek out medical advice about the detoxification process and appropriate detox services.

Does virtual treatment work for addiction?

Virtual care has opened access to addiction treatment to more people than ever, even improving participation rates for some patients because attendance is convenient.

Hazelden Betty Ford's virtual intensive outpatient treatment program (IOP) in Oregon could be a great fit if you have mobility or accessibility challenges or you aren't located near our Beaverton or Newberg treatment facilities.

How can Hazelden Betty Ford help me after outpatient drug rehab?

Scientific research identifies ongoing involvement in sober activities and social engagement with the recovery community as some of the best predictors of long-term sobriety and well-being. Active engagement is especially important during the first 18 months post-rehab, when risk of returning to substance use is most intense.

You can easily access our digital, in-person and phone-based recovery resources, including:

Integrated Treatment for Co-occurring Disorders

Substance use issues often overlap with other mental health challenges and conditions. The interaction of symptoms can make diagnosis and treatment complex. For example, symptoms stemming from trauma exposure can become more severe with alcohol or other drug use. At the same time, substance use can become increasingly problematic as symptoms of trauma worsen.

At Hazelden Betty Ford's dual diagnosis treatment center in Beaverton, clinicians specialize in treating co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Evidence-based therapies are integrated into your personalized, dual diagnosis treatment plan, with services provided by mental health professionals, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and addiction counselors who have expertise in dual diagnosis.
